Finding the perfect season for your wedding is the first step in the planning process. But which season is the right one to choose?
You may be quick to rule winter out in favor of the warm, sunny days of spring and summer, but you may be making a mistake. Winter weddings are wonderfully unique and magical and could be the perfect backdrop for your big day.
Here are ten reasons why we love winter weddings – and why you should too!
1. Save money
Weddings in the winter tend to cost less than any other season. Since they’re considered “off-season,” many venues and vendors will provide a discount to brides that choose to have their wedding during the winter time. If you’re on a budget, this could save you tons!
2. More Availability
During the winter, there is much less competition for dates. That means, you’ll probably be able to get your first choice vendors. Whoever you want for your DJ, photographer and flowers, you can bet they’ll be available.
3. Less Planning
With more availability, you’ll be able to have a much shorter engagement if that’s what you want. For spring and summer weddings, you need to book your venue and vendors at least a year in advance – sometimes more! But for the winter, there’s no need to book so early. You’ll be able to plan your whole wedding in a much shorter span of time.
4. Romantic Photos
If you’re lucky enough to get a dusting of snow on your big day, your wedding photos are sure to be magical. With everything covered in white, you and your groom will be the focal point of every photo, and you’ll have that classic white wedding look without even trying.
5. Highlight of the Season
Summer weddings are a dime a dozen, and your guests are likely super busy during that time of year. But in the winter, there probably aren’t too many events going on that you’ll have to compete with. You should plan on the majority of your guests RSVPing “yes” and they’re sure to be ready for a party!
6. Holiday Excitement
The winter season is full of holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Valentine’s Day. Tying in your wedding to one of these holidays can be super fun and make your big day even more special.
7. Rich Colors
Every season has its own special color palette, but we may like winter the best. With deep reds and purples, golds and silvers, dark blues and greens, you can’t go wrong. Choose a rich jewel tone that is sure to stand out and look great on your bridal party and in your decor.
8. Fun Accessories
The cold weather offers tons of opportunities for you to spice up your wedding wardrobe. Get cozy with a faux fur wrap or coat or look elegant in some long gloves. You could even have some fun with earmuffs and scarves!
9. Good Honeymoon Timing
When the cold weather hits, who isn’t ready to hit the beach? Winter is the perfect time to go on your honeymoon to a tropical area. After enjoying the chilly winter air at your wedding, it’s time to soak up the sun and relax!
10. Stand Out
Just the fact that you’re having your wedding during the winter will make your big day unique. With the right wintery decor, accessories and other wedding essentials, your wedding is sure to be an event that everyone will be talking about for years to come.
